The gallery@helston is a completely new venture for us at Cornwall Hospice Care and we believe it is the country's first charity shop art gallery. Every two weeks the gallery@helston will showcase the work of a local artist in its courtyard gallery. Artists have the opportunity to use the galley space free of charge and then a percentage of any work sold will go to support the services provided by the charity.
The ground floor of the shop will continue to sell good quality, clothes, books and bric-a-brac, while the basement acts as an ideal canvas for artists with its white washed cob walls, original stone cobbled floor and a small courtyard, which can be used for first night openings and to display sculptures or ceramics.

Shop Manager Amanda Holdgate, herself an artist who works in acrylics and pastels, came up with the idea when talking to a colleague. Amanda, 39, who has worked at the shop for four years said: ”I wanted to give local artists the opportunity to show their work, particularly first-time exhibitors.”
If you are an aspiring artist who wishes to hold an exhibition please contact Amanda Holdgate on 01326 561095 to arrange an appointment to show your portfolio.
