Your Care

Your Care In-Patient Unit continued
The care provided by Cornwall Hospice Care is truly holistic – we offer all encompassing care looking at the physical, emotional and spiritual well being of each patient. Our staff are specially trained not only in the relief of physical symptoms, but also in the delivery of psychosocial support to the patient, family members and their carers.

Patients may come to us at different stages of their illness, on referral from their GP, consultant, Macmillan or district nurse. Patients, their families and carers are welcomed into an atmosphere of genuine warmth, support and understanding.

In-Patient Unit
At Mount Edgcumbe Hospice there are eight single rooms and two four- bedded wards all over-looking the beautiful secluded gardens. There is a bright open concourse area where visitors can serve themselves to light refreshments; two quiet rooms, a chapel, patient/visitor lounge areas with wheelchair access to the gardens, a well-equipped children’s room and treatment rooms for complementary therapy. In addition we have a comfortable room for family members to stay over-night subject to availability.

Each of the eight bedrooms at St. Julia’s are on the ground floor with access to a patio area where patients and visitors can sit out and enjoy the small, peaceful garden area. The patient/visitor rooms have teas and coffee-making facilities, there is also a children’s room and chapel. There are treatment rooms available for therapies and outpatient appointments.
.
All patients to the hospices are greeted on arrival and seen by a nurse who will talk to them about their stay. Patients have access to all members of the multi-disciplinary team who will be there to help with all aspects of their care

Meals are prepared freshly on the premises each day and patients can chose from a varied menu.
Both hospices operate a no-smoking policy for staff, volunteers and visitors. However, patients may smoke in designated areas.

Out-Patient Facilities
The hospices also offer treatments and support to people who visit us as day patients. During their appointments they have access to all members of the multi-disciplinary team who are on hand to assist in any aspect of their care. They can be referred for treatments such as blood transfusions and intravenous medications. Our specialist lymphoedema nurse holds clinics on both sites.

Outreach Clinics
Our Specialist Palliative Care medical team and community colleagues hold regular clinics at hospitals throughout Cornwall offering expertise into the alleviation and management of symptoms and circumstances that often accompany a terminal illness. These services will be expanding in line with developments across the Health and Social care teams within the county.
