Volunteer Services

We have a team of volunteers who are essential to the work of the hospices. The selfless contribution they make to the organisation is vital to the quality and diversity of service we are able to offer to our patients, relatives and close friends.

As with all other hospice staff, volunteers undergo a selection process before they join the team. This includes the completion of an application form, Criminal Records Bureau disclosure form, attendance at an interview and a reference check. They are then required to serve a probationary period where they shadow an experienced volunteer until they have gained confidence in their chosen role and are familiar with the hospice layout and procedures.

Patient Services

Reception (daytime and evening)

Meeting and greeting patients and visitors to the hospice, taking telephone calls and signposting messages.

Hospice Concourse and Refreshment Area

Keeping the area neat and tidy; the sale of light refreshments and fundraising merchandise to patients, visitors and staff; listening and talking to patients and their visitors.

Wards

Assistance in the preparation for and services of meals/beverages to the patients; carrying out patients' personal ironing (when required); chatting to patients and visitors when and where appropriate; tending flowers and plants around the hospice.
